There’s a lot to unpack from Monday’s big v0.26 update to BeamNG.drive (19th September 2022). From a vehicle remastered to several PBR updates and from nearly two dozen new missions to a preview of a realistic hydraulics system that’s set to be implemented in the future, v0.26 takes yet another huge step.
A fan favorite car, the Ibishu Covet, is all-new in v0.26. The vehicle has all new graphics, textures, body work, models, and it also has some features that are new to the game. The new Covet will feature racing interior parts, realistic openable doors, hood and trunk as well as an animated manual shifter and a functional odometer.
There were a handful of other vehicles that were updated in the new update, and several levels were given PBR (Physically Based Rendering) graphical updates, some of which made the venues ready for the Autumn months ahead.
As for the missions, there’s a new mission type called ‘Chase’ and the medals have been replaced by a new star system. There are also a host of new missions to check out and complete while you’re at it.
The hydraulic system is in a preview build mode for now, currently tying in with the existing powertrain as it will draw power from engines and motors, accurately taking real world hydraulic properties of pumps and cylinders into consideration, per the notes. Also, motion blur is a new experimental addition to the fold.
